Terms of Service

The agreement between us when you book my celebrant services

Thank you for considering my services. This page outlines what you can expect when working with me, and the terms that apply to our professional relationship. I aim to keep things straightforward and fair, while ensuring we both have clarity about our agreement.

Services Offered

As an independent celebrant, I offer the following ceremony services:

  • Wedding ceremonies
  • Funeral and memorial services
  • Naming ceremonies
  • Vow renewal ceremonies

Each ceremony is personally crafted to reflect your wishes, values, and story. Please note that in the UK, celebrant-led wedding ceremonies are not legally binding. Couples typically complete the legal paperwork at a registry office before or after our ceremony.

Booking Process

To secure my services for your ceremony, the following process applies:

  1. Initial Consultation: We'll meet (in person or virtually) to discuss your needs and vision for your ceremony. This consultation is free and carries no obligation.
  2. Booking Confirmation: If you decide to proceed, I'll provide a written quote and booking form. Your date is only secured once I receive your completed booking form and non-refundable deposit.
  3. Deposit: A non-refundable deposit of £100 is required to secure your date. Once paid, I will not accept any other bookings for that date and time.
  4. Balance Payment: The remaining balance is due no later than 30 days before the ceremony date (for weddings, naming ceremonies, and vow renewals). For funeral services, payment arrangements will be discussed during the booking process.

Cancellation Policy

I understand that circumstances can change. My cancellation policy is as follows:

  • Cancellation by You:
    • More than 90 days before the ceremony: Deposit is non-refundable, but any additional payments made will be refunded in full.
    • 30-90 days before the ceremony: 50% of the total fee is payable (or retained if already paid).
    • Less than 30 days before the ceremony: The full fee is payable (or retained if already paid).
  • Date Changes: If you need to change your ceremony date, I will try to accommodate this where possible, subject to my availability. No additional fee will be charged for date changes if made more than 60 days before the original date. Date changes with less notice may incur an administration fee of £50.
  • Cancellation by Me: In the unlikely event that I need to cancel due to illness or emergency, I will make every effort to find a suitable replacement celebrant of similar style and quality. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.

Ceremony Content & Intellectual Property

The creation of your ceremony is a collaborative process, with the following terms:

  • I will create a bespoke ceremony script based on our discussions and any information you provide. You will have the opportunity to review and request reasonable revisions to this script.
  • The final content of the ceremony remains at my discretion as the celebrant, though I will always aim to accommodate your wishes wherever possible.
  • The ceremony script I create is my intellectual property. You will receive a presentation copy of your ceremony script after the event for your personal keepsake, but the content may not be reproduced for commercial purposes or for another celebrant's use without my written permission.
  • I may take discreet notes or photos during planning meetings for my reference. These will be kept confidential and stored securely in line with my Privacy Policy.

Liability & Insurance

While I take every care to provide a professional service:

  • I maintain professional indemnity and public liability insurance for my celebrancy services.
  • My liability is limited to the fee paid for my services in the event of any claim arising from my work.
  • I cannot be held responsible for circumstances beyond my reasonable control, including but not limited to severe weather events, natural disasters, public health emergencies, or venue issues.
  • For outdoor ceremonies, it is your responsibility to have a backup plan in case of inclement weather.
  • I will make every reasonable effort to arrive at your ceremony on time. However, I cannot be held liable for delays caused by factors beyond my control (such as unexpected traffic conditions or transport failures).

I reserve the right to update these terms of service from time to time. Any changes will not apply to bookings already confirmed, unless required by law. The latest version will always be available on my website. If you have any questions about these terms, please don't hesitate to contact me.
